VILLA IN KITA KARUIZAWA
JAPAN
The Villa in Kita Karuizawa named Arete” draws from rock climbing and the Greek ideal of excellence. It features
intersecting planes forming sharp or rounded edges, evoking a sense of achievement as one moves through the space.
The experience of moving through this space evokes the feeling of accomplishment, as the architecture mirrors the
challenge and satisfaction of overcoming intersecting forms. Blending minimalist aesthetics with organic elements,
Arete symbolizes the pursuit of personal fulfillment through a harmonious interaction with the built environment.
This project is not just a vacation home, but a peaceful retreat designed for people looking for a special, refined
experience. "Not a Hotel" allows people to switch between homes, vacation houses, and hotels around the world.
However, this villa has its own unique character. By using the natural features of the site, we created a space that
offers a new lifestyle experience, fitting well with the other "Not a Hotel" properties. This design blends luxury,
privacy, and nature in a way that gives owners a truly special experience. Each space is carefully crafted to provide
both calmness and beautiful views, making it a unique private retreat.
